Our goal is to take the hassle out of healthy eating, so all you have to do is heat and eat. After peeling off the label, simply puncture a few holes on the plastic film, and microwave your meal for 2-3 minutes. You can also reheat your food on the stove or in the oven if you prefer.

Everything we make is all-inclusive except for the breakfast granola, for which we suggest adding fresh fruit, and/or organically-sourced, unsweetened plant-based milk (almond, soy, rice, hemp, oat etc). Where can I find nutritional information about your meals?

Each and every meal label contains nutrition facts and ingredients on the back side.

What kinds of ingredients do you use?

We source locally-grown, whole-food, nutrient-dense, organic ingredients. Everything is gluten and GMO free, while a majority of our meals are also dairy, and soy-free. In our plans containing animal products, you’ll find grass-fed meat, free-range poultry, and sustainable fish – all antibiotic and hormone-free.

The compassionate treatment and welfare of farmed animals are very important to us at Fresh N Lean. We partner with suppliers who are equally committed to ensuring farm animals have a humane life. That is why we are committing to source all of our eggs with a certification recognized by the ASPCA® Shop With Your Heart program by 2021.

Are your meals certified organic?

We use organic products when high quality raw materials are available and retain the flexibility to use conventional ingredients when the organic raw materials do not meet our quality standards. In food manufacturing each menu item must be certified individually, this process can be time consuming and defer from our ability to quickly innovate and update our menus. We are currently working on certifying certain menu items that are consistently made with 95% + organic raw materials year-round.

Do you use processed foods or artificial ingredients?

We never use processed or artificial ingredients, and everything is non-GMO.

Do you use any canned vegetables?

We only use fresh vegetables in all of your meals. Where it makes the most sense we use organic products. For example, all of the “Dirty Dozen” ingredients in your meals are organic. Generally, for the “Clean 15” we use conventional however, ingredients like cauliflower are sourced from organic farms.

Any ingredients that fall in between these two categories such as squash and eggplant are usually and frequently organic as well.

How are the meals prepared? Is anything fried?

Every meal is made from scratch, just like you would prepare in your own home (only in much larger portions). None of our food is fried – our professional chefs typically bake or steam ingredients to maximize nutrient availability (and taste).

Do you cook with any alcohols?

We don’t. None of our meals are made with any alcohol.

Is the meat you use organic?

We strive to use the best ingredients available while also supporting sustainability. Here’s more information about the quality of meat we use.

Beef: We use grass-fed beef which is by definition humane and never confined to a feedlot.

Chicken: All of our chicken is Raised Without Antibiotics including our chicken sausage. The only exception is chicken breast for our bulk shredded chicken. Our goal is to source chicken as sustainable and humanely as possible which is why we’ve partnered with Animal Equality on the Better Chicken Commitment.

Elk & Venison: Any meals featuring Elk or Venison are grass-fed and pasture-raised.

Is your seafood wild-caught? Where is it sourced from?

We only use shrimp and seafood that’s been certified by the Marine Stewardship Council for wild caught species and Aquaculture Stewardship Council for socially and environmentally farm-raised seafood.

Any seafood that has been farm-raised is only sourced from sea farms held to stringent standards.

How do you avoid cross-contamination for specific dietary needs?

To avoid cross-contamination we use a variety of food safety HACCP programs, allergen controls, and processes like preparing Vegan meals on separate shifts than other meal plans.

Do I need to take any supplements?

Our meals provide a wide variety of nutrients and are dietician-approved, but you may still need to supplement or eat additional food in order to reach the nutrient daily recommendations. We recommend adding our almonds and sesame chips (on our A La Carte menu) to your meal plan to cover most of those nutrients.

If you are on a plant-based meal plan, we recommend taking Omega 3’s DHA & EPA, Vitamin B12, Iodine, and Vitamin D to cover common deficiencies seen on a vegan diet. For women on all meal plans, an iron supplement may also be helpful (depending on what else you choose to eat).

What is the nutritional breakdown of your food?

The macronutrient breakdown varies between plans and individual meals, however, you can always count on getting a variety of whole foods. We use ingredients that are nutrient-dense and fiber-rich, nourishing your body and helping you feel fuller for longer. That means plenty of vegetables, and then a range of whole grains, pulses, and lean animal protein (depending on which plan you select).

I’m very active - will I get enough protein?

Our meal plans are designed to provide enough protein for the average individual. However, if you are very active, we recommend the Protein+ plan which provides higher amounts of lean animal protein and energizing complex-carbs. Regardless of your meal plan choice, if you want to add additional protein or sides, you can always visit our A La Carte menu to fit your needs.

Will your meals help me lose weight?

Weight loss is not guaranteed with our plans, but many of our customers report great results. Since our meals are fiber-rich and nutritious, they help you feel fuller for longer and can potentially reduce the urge to snack – great news for anyone attempting to lose weight.

What if I'm still hungry?

If you’re still hungry after eating one of our meals, we recommend eating a side salad, a piece of fruit, or one of our snacks. We offer delicious granola and a variety of almonds on our A La Carte menu, as well as a variety of vegetable, whole grain, and lean meat sides.

Are your meals low sodium?

Most of our meals could be considered low sodium (140 mg of sodium or less per 100 g of the meal), but certain meals may contain more. Eating three meals a day from any of our meal plans provides less than 2,300 mg of sodium a day. The general recommendation for American’s on a 2,000 calorie diet is no more than 2,300 mg sodium/day.

Do you use any refined sugars?

We avoid using overly processed sugars in our meals, but sometimes add small amounts of unrefined sweeteners (such as maple syrup) to breakfasts and sauces.

Are your meals paleo, gluten-free, dairy-free or vegan?

All of our meals are gluten-free. Two of our meal plans (Vegan, Vegan low-carb) are fully vegan, and our Paleo and Protein+ plans are also dairy-free. The only exceptions to our dairy-free rule are the Keto plan and Mediterranean Diet plan.
