Because Chocolate Makes Everything Better

Oatmeal is just one of those dishes people aren’t jumping to eat because it’s notorious for being bland. But, when someone mentions vegan dark chocolate oatmeal, things start to get a little more interesting. This dark chocolate protein oatmeal is a chocolate-y and delicious vegan and gluten-free way to enjoy oatmeal that’s packed full of creamy dreamy flavor.

The foundation of this easy-to-make recipe is rolled oats, which provide an array of essential health benefits including substantial amounts of fiber, iron and vitamin B. Touted as one of the healthiest grains on earth, rolled oats can help with weight loss, and have been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease. Additionally, oats are high in antioxidants, which help prevent cellular damage from harmful molecules called free radicals.

Oats can also be a powerful tool for diabetes control, thanks to their high volume of fiber beta-glucan, which may help improve insulin sensitivity in type 2 diabetes patients. While oats aren’t sweet on their own, adding a bit of maple syrup, cocoa powder, and some chocolate protein powder to a half cup of rolled oats will really increase the sweetness and overall flavor factor and deliver even more beneficial nutrients.

While maple syrup might typically be reserved for a scrumptious stack of your favorite pancakes, this sweetener has some underrated nutritional facts. Aside from being one of the most natural sweeteners in the world, maple syrup is high in calcium and iron. Adding cocoa powder is where this vegan dark chocolate protein oatmeal really comes together. Cocoa is beneficial because it contains a type of antioxidant called polyphenols, which have anti-inflammatory properties.

All you have to do to make this dark chocolate protein oatmeal is combine all the ingredients in a pot, and simmer until the liquid is absorbed. In just 10-15 minutes, you can enjoy a quick and simple breakfast fit for a plant-based meal plan that’s under 500 calories, but has more than 20 grams of protein per serving.
